Dating back to 1856, Charles F. Orvis opened a shop where he made rods and flys while launching the first mail-order retailer in the United States. Another first? In 1966, the Orvis brand established the first fly-fishing school in the United States (Manchester, Vermont), which has become a community hub for anglers to this day.

Check out the Orvis Beginners Saltwater Weekend, enjoy the Orvis Saltwater Fly Fishing Festival, or go all out at the free Orvis Game Fair. Fly fishing community included. Looking for more of a first step into fly fishing? Head out experience Orvis’ Fly Fishing 101, classes where you can learn basic casting, essential knots, among other techniques, to get you ready for Fly Fishing 201: learning to fish on local waters.
